Brazilian Highly Recommended firm Martinelli Advogados has continued its rapid partnership expansion by bringing back two former partners to strengthen its tax and corporate practices.
Jacob Wobeto and Rubens Morroni de Paiva Filho rejoined the firm on 16 June, increasing Martinelli’s partner count to 135.
Wobeto returns to Martinelli’s Joinville office in Santa Catarina, southern Brazil, after just over a year at local consultancy CW TAX Soluções Tributárias. He previously spent more than seven years as a partner at Martinelli, having joined the firm from professional services company PwC in 2018.
His practice focuses on tax advisory matters, corporate structuring, transfer pricing and judicial contingency assessments.
“Returning to Martinelli at this stage of the firm’s development represents an opportunity to contribute to the continued strengthening of its presence in Santa Catarina and to support clients with increasingly integrated and business-oriented solutions,” says Wobeto, adding: “The combination of technical expertise and proximity to clients has always been a defining feature of the firm and remains central to its growth strategy.”
Meanwhile, Filho rejoins the firm to lead its corporate practice in Santa Catarina after nearly six years running his own boutique, Paiva Filho Advocacia Empresarial.
He spent almost three years at Martinelli between 2015 and 2018, where he coordinated the firm’s corporate law team in Belo Horizonte.
He advises clients on M&A transactions, corporate reorganisations, governance matters and succession and wealth planning. He will oversee the firm’s corporate, M&A and governance offering in Santa Catarina.
“Rejoining the firm provides an opportunity to further develop its corporate practice in Santa Catarina and to support clients on increasingly sophisticated transactions and strategic matters,” Filho says.
In a statement, the firm says the hires form part of a broader strategy to consolidate leadership in key jurisdictions and deepen integration between its regional offices and full-service platform.
The latest appointments mean Martinelli has added 11 partners since the start of the year, following a series of hires across its disputes, tax, white-collar and real estate-related practices.
In May, the firm strengthened its white-collar crime, compliance, disputes and tax capabilities by hiring partners from David Rechulski Advogados and Prolik Advogados, alongside a disputes specialist with experience before Brazil’s Administrative Council of Tax Appeals (CARF). Those hires followed the arrival in March of partners from Highly Recommended firms SiqueiraCastro and Leite, Tosto e Barros Advogados, as well as a tax specialist from pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly. Earlier in the year, Martinelli bolstered its tax and real estate offerings with hires from Cursino Advogados, steelmaker Gerdau and professional services group EY.
