Brazilian Highly Recommended firm Martinelli Advogados has inaugurated an office in the rural city of Sinop, located in thecentral state of Mato Grosso, in a bid to target more agribusiness work.

The firm announced the opening of the new office on 11 September. Tax and agribusiness-focused associate Luiz Rodrigo Cappellin will lead the new outpost, the firm’s first office in Mato Grosso.

Partners Priscila Dalcomuni and Rodrigo Girolla are responsible for Martinelli’s operations across the state of Mato Grosso. Both are based in the southern state of Santa Catarina.

The office in Sinop is Martinelli’s 17th outpost in Brazil. The firm is now present in the states of Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, as well as Brasília.

Through the Sinop office, Martinelli will focus on providing tax and corporate advice to businesses and agricultural producers.

Mato Grosso is Brazil’s leading producer of soy, corn, cotton and beef. The state is also home to farm holdings belonging to and run by family businesses. Martinelli expects to provide wealth planning advice to clients in these industries.

Cappellin says the outpost will see lots of work as a result of Brazil’s upcoming tax reform. “Key aspects of – specifically, Brazil’s tax on the transfer of assets upon death – are also expected to be modified,” explains Cappellin. “These changes will have implications for inheritances, family succession and wealth management,” he continues, as Martinelli will aim to help farming clients in Sinop face these challenges.

Martinelli is best known in the market for its corporate, tax, labour and litigation offerings. The firm was originally founded in Joinville, in the state of Santa Catarina.
